Adobe Photoshop is a raster graphics editor for Windows and macOS developed and released by Adobe Inc. It was first designed by Thomas and John Knoll in 1988. Since then, not only in raster graphics editing, but also in visual art in general, the app has become the industry standard.

As a result, the software's name has become a common trademark, leading to its use as a verb (for example, 'to photoshop an image,' 'photoshopping,' and 'photoshop contest'), despite Adobe's objections.

Photoshop supports filters, alpha compositing, and many color templates, including RGB, CMYK, CIELAB, spot color, and duotone, and can manipulate and compose raster images in several layers. To support these features, Photoshop uses its own PSD and PSB file formats. Photoshop free version for windows 7.

Aside from raster graphics, Photoshop has limited capabilities for editing and rendering text, vector graphics (particularly by clipping paths for the latter), 3D graphics, and video. Plug-ins are applications that run within Photoshop to incorporate new or improved functionality. They are created and distributed independently of Photoshop.

Initially, Photoshop's naming system was based on version numbers. Every new version of Photoshop was designated with 'CS' plus a number starting in October 2002 (following the launch of Creative Suite branding); for example, the eighth major version of Photoshop was Photoshop CS, and the ninth was Photoshop CS2.

Normal and Expanded versions were available for Photoshop CS3 through CS6. Photoshop's licensing scheme was changed to a software as a service leasing model with the launch of the Creative Cloud branding in June 2013 (and the upgrade of the 'CS' suffix to 'CC').

Photoshop used to come packaged with other applications including Adobe ImageReady, Adobe Fireworks, Adobe Bridge, Adobe System Core, and Adobe Camera RAW. Adobe also produces and publishes Photoshop Components, Photoshop Lightroom, Photoshop Express, Photoshop Fix, Photoshop Draw, and Photoshop Mix in addition to Photoshop.

Adobe has now launched a complete version of Photoshop for the iPad as of November 2019, and although it is initially limited, Adobe plans to add more features to Photoshop for iPad in the future. They are collectively known as 'The Adobe Photoshop Family.'

Plug-Ins

Photoshop plugins are add-on applications that expand the capabilities of Photoshop (or plug-ins). Adobe designs some plugins, such as Adobe Camera Raw, but most plugins are developed by third parties to Adobe's specifications. Some of the programs are free, and others are charged. The majority of plugins are only compatible with Photoshop or Photoshop-compatible hosts, although a handful can still be used as standalone programs.

Filter, export, import, range, color correction, and automation are all examples of plugins. Free photo editor for windows. The most common plugins are the filter plugins (also known as 8bf plugins), which can be found in Photoshop's Filter menu. Filter plugins can either change or generate content based on the current image. Some common types of plugins, as well as some well-known businesses affiliated with them, are found online and include:

  • Color correction plugins
  • Special effects plugins
  • 3D effects plugins

Adobe Camera Raw (also known as ACR or Camera Raw) is a free Adobe plugin that is used to read and process raw image files so that the resulting images can be edited in Photoshop. It can also be reached via Adobe Bridge.
