Adobe Photoshop is a raster graphics editor for Windows and macOS developed and released by Adobe Inc. It was first designed by Thomas and John Knoll in 1988. Since then, not only in raster graphics editing, but also in visual art in general, the app has become the industry standard.
As a result, the software's name has become a common trademark, leading to its use as a verb (for example, 'to photoshop an image,' 'photoshopping,' and 'photoshop contest'), despite Adobe's objections.
Photoshop supports filters, alpha compositing, and many color templates, including RGB, CMYK, CIELAB, spot color, and duotone, and can manipulate and compose raster images in several layers. Normal and Expanded versions were available for Photoshop CS3 through CS6. Photoshop's licensing scheme was changed to a software as a service leasing model with the launch of the Creative Cloud branding in June 2013 (and the upgrade of the 'CS' suffix to 'CC').
Photoshop used to come packaged with other applications including Adobe ImageReady, Adobe Fireworks, Adobe Bridge, Adobe System Core, and Adobe Camera RAW. Adobe also produces and publishes Photoshop Components, Photoshop Lightroom, Photoshop Express, Photoshop Fix, Photoshop Draw, and Photoshop Mix in addition to Photoshop.
Adobe has now launched a complete version of Photoshop for the iPad as of November 2019, and although it is initially limited, Adobe plans to add more features to Photoshop for iPad in the future. They are collectively known as 'The Adobe Photoshop Family.'
Plug-Ins
Photoshop plugins are add-on applications that expand the capabilities of Photoshop (or plug-ins). Adobe designs some plugins, such as Adobe Camera Raw, but most plugins are developed by third parties to Adobe's specifications. Some of the programs are free, and others are charged. The majority of plugins are only compatible with Photoshop or Photoshop-compatible hosts, although a handful can still be used as standalone programs.

2020 Version (V21)
On November 4, 2019, Adobe Photoshop 2020 was released. Many new and updated features are included in Version 21, including a new object sorting tool for automating complex choices, a new properties screen, improved transform warp, new keyboard shortcuts for paint and brush, and a background image removal option.
